Every October, communities across Australia come together to celebrate Occupational Therapy (OT) Week, and in 2025 the theme is Occupational Therapy in Action. Running from 27 October – 2 November, this year’s campaign highlights the vital role Occupational Therapists play in helping people of all ages live meaningful, independent, and fulfilling lives.
At Crescent Healthcare, we celebrate OT Week and shine a light on how Occupational Therapy transforms everyday lives — from classrooms to retirement communities, from workplaces to homes.
What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational Therapy is a person-centered health profession that enables people to do the things they want and need to do in daily life, whether that’s self-care, learning, working, engaging in leisure, or staying connected socially.
Occupational Therapists don’t just treat conditions; they empower people to participate fully in meaningful activities. Their holistic approach considers physical, emotional, cognitive, and environmental factors to support wellbeing and independence.

Occupational Therapists in Education
For students, school isn’t only about academics, it’s about developing life skills, social confidence, and emotional resilience. Occupational Therapists play a key role in making learning environments accessible and supportive
- Supporting Routines: OTs help children manage transitions, stay organised, and participate in school activities.
- Learning and Access: They provide strategies to ensure all students, including those with additional needs, can engage with the curriculum.
- Emotional Regulation: OTs support children in managing big emotions so they can thrive in both classroom and playground settings.
Occupational Therapists with Older People
As people age, independence and connection to community become more important than ever. Occupational Therapists provide support that allows older Australians to live safely and meaningfully in their homes and communities.
- Fall prevention and mobility strategies reduce risks and build confidence.
- Home safety assessments ensure living spaces are supportive and accessible.
- Life transitions — whether moving into retirement, adapting to health changes, or entering aged care — are made smoother with OT guidance.
- Promoting wellbeing by helping people stay active, engaged, and connected.
Occupational Therapists in Mental Health
Our mental health is closely linked to what we do each day, our routines, relationships, and meaningful occupations. OTs working in mental health understand this connection and use it to support recovery and wellbeing.
They help people to identify strength, values, and goals and as well as build life skills like stress management, organisation, and communication.
OTs work across hospitals, schools, community teams, workplaces, and homes, supporting people.
Why Occupational Therapy in Action Matters
This year’s theme, Occupational Therapy in Action, celebrates the everyday impact OTs make across the lifespan. From early childhood interventions to ages care services, Occupational Therapists are quietly changing lives, helping people not just survive, but thrive.
By raising awareness during OT Week, we’re also advocating for a more inclusive and supportive society, one where everyone can participate in meaningful activities, no matter their stage of life or abilities.
Get Involved
Whether you’re an educator, carer, family member, or health professional, OT Week 2025 is a chance to share resources and posters from the OT Week 2025 campaign, join conversations about the value of Occupational Therapy, celebrate the OTs in your community who make everyday life more accessible and fulfilling.
